A lot of people talk about eating healthy and often at times they focus on the newest trendy food like exotic superfoods. We are led to believe that to have a balanced diet we need expensive or rare ingredients, that you can only find in fancy supermarkets rather than in a farmer’s market.

But in reality, many common foods like eggs, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens are actually very healthy, even though we don’t always realize or appreciate it. In this article we’ll look at everyday foods and how important they are for a healthy diet.

Eggs: Eggs are famous for being a great source of high-quality protein, which is very much needed to build and repair the muscles in the body. This makes them helpful for people who exercise or want to maintain strong muscles.

However, protein isn’t the only nutrient that eggs provide. It is also rich in vitamins and minerals, like Vitamin B12 and choline. B vitamins are needed for energy production, while choline is great for the brain. Although eggs contain cholesterol, eating them in moderation does not raise the risk of having heart diseases.

Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate, most particularly the kind made with 70% cocoa or more, is filled with antioxidants.

These antioxidants help protect your cells from being damaged by free radicals. This cocoa product can also help with brain function, making you more focused and happier. Furthermore, it contains compounds that might benefit the skin by improving hydration  and protecting against sun damage.

Coffee: Coffee is more than just a quick energy booster. It contains antioxidants which help to protect the cells from damage. Studies have shown that drinking coffee regularly may reduce the risk of certain diseases like type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease, just to name a few. Furthermore, many people are familiar with the mental alertness that comes with drinking a cup of coffee. Asides that, it can also help with weight loss, by boosting your metabolism.

Fatty Fish: Fatty fish like mackerel, salmon, and tuna, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats help lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Since fatty fish contains anti-inflammatory properties, it can help to reduce inflammation in the body.

Yogurt: Did you know that yogurt is great for your digestive system? That’s because it contains probiotics, healthy bacteria that help the gut to be balanced.

Also it can also boost the immune system, which makes it easier for the body to fight off infections. However, when choosing yogurt, it’s best to go for plain, and unsweetened varieties to avoid any added sugar. You can top it up with fruits, nuts, or seeds to make it even tastier.

Bottom Line

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to buy expensive or trendy foods. Common foods like eggs, dark chocolate, coffee, fatty fish, and yogurt are packed with nutrients that are great for your body.

These foods provide important things like protein, vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy fats that help you stay strong and healthy. The best part? They are affordable and easy to find.
