Gbemi O Sparks Debate With Her Take On Cheating

Nigerian media personality Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, simply known as Gbemi O, has sparked conversations online with her unexpected take on cheating. Appearing as a guest on Diary of Naija Girl hosted by Ifedayo Agoro, this seasoned broadcaster shared her interesting strategy for infidelity in a relationship.

When asked whether cheating was her relationship breaker, Gbemi says it depends on how that cheating situation would arise. She claims it’s wrong to even think of retaliating; rather, if she has to get back at him, she must make sure to hurt his feelings through somebody he truly respects, like his role model.

Her bold statement sparked immediate reactions, with some viewers applauding her for flipping the narrative on gender dynamics in cheating, while others criticized her for promoting toxicity and escalation in relationships.

From a broader perspective, even if Gbemi’s take might seem extreme to some, it undeniably highlights a common emotional reaction; hurt people want their pain acknowledged.

However, the option of revenge, particularly with someone close to the cheater, has its own set of complications: further entanglement of emotions, reputational damage, and a vicious circle of distrust. As appealing as the concept of “getting even” may sound in the heat of the moment, does it ever really resolve the hurt?
