The infamous Dominique Pelicot had on Thursday, December 19, been served juice in the form of a 20-year prison sentence for his involvement in a series of mass rapes. This landmark case not only brought justice to the survivors but also highlighted the urgent need for systemic change in how sexual violence is addressed.

Pelicot’s conviction is no doubt a significant victory for the survivors of rape who have come forward to share their harrowing experiences in yeh hands of their abusers, with many expressing hope that a new standard for handling such heinous crimes would now be set going forward.
