Chelsea missed the chance to claim the Premier League’s top spot after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. Sean Dyche’s men showcased resilience, extending their solid home record against the Blues, with six unbeaten results in their last seven encounters.
The visitors dominated early proceedings but clear chances were at a premium. It wasn’t until the 29th minute that Chelsea came close as Cole Palmer set up Nicolas Jackson, whose shot was saved by Jordan Pickford, before Malo Gusto blazed the rebound over and Jackson hit the woodwork moments later. Though having most of the possession, Chelsea almost got punished on the counter as Orel Mangala forced a strong save from Robert Sánchez.
Fresh from that defensive masterclass against Arsenal, Everton were at it again, frustrating Chelsea through the second half. Sánchez kept the visitors alive, making key stops to deny Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrøm from close range.
Chelsea’s inability to reap rewards for their dominance sends them second, behind Liverpool as Christmas comes, while Everton remain 15th despite having one win in eight, having gained an important point on the way. Dyche will be encouraged by another robust display and his side moves on, fighting for survival.
