Denzel Washington has taken to the pulpit as the 69-year-old actor is now officially a licensed minister, stunning Hollywood. In a commanding ceremony at Kelly Temple in New York City, the Academy Award-winning star was officially baptized and welcomed into the clergy of the Church of God in Christ. By commanding films such as Training Day and Malcolm X, Washington can now tackle his most transformative role yet; one of faith and service.

In an industry infamous for its avoidance of any discussion about religion, Washington’s move is a statement. In a Hollywood that despises open faith, he has unapologetically embraced his. “When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my Lord and Savior,” he said. His willingness to speak out about his faith stands as a stark contrast to the norms of an industry that prioritizes image over integrity.

This spiritual pivot is a new chapter for Washington, whose decades-long career has already left an indelible mark on the entertainment world. Now, as a minister, he’s proving that success and faith are not mutually exclusive. The journey of Washington inspires the believer and skeptic alike: it shows that true power exists in staying authentic to one’s values, even when it goes against the grain.
