During festive periods, there is this magical vibe in the air that makes everyone act a little different. Some people are out doing their favorite things like planning parties, smoking, boat cruising, or basically just trying to have fun. On the other hand, there are sets of people who are out there trying out stuff they’ve never done before just to see what it’s like.

Sometimes, all the excitement makes people do stuff they normally wouldn’t; like drinking too much, trying smoking, or staying up way too late. It may not look or feel like a big deal at the time, but if you’re not careful, it can turn into a serious problem real quick. In this article, we are going to look at some common risks you should know about and how to stay ahead of them this holiday season.

What Could Go Wrong?

Substance Overload: It is no news that holiday parties are full of free drinks, and for some people, it can get tempting to overdo it. People might drink too much, or even mix alcohol with other substances, which can lead them to become more aggressive, drunk, or even lead to accidents. In situations like this, it is very easy to switch from having fun to having things go out of control.

Mental Rollercoaster: During the holiday period, people are out partying and indulging in different activities. Some people feel stressed, lonely, or even pressured to fit in. They end up doing things they usually wouldn’t like smoking or drinking. These activities can affect your mental health, leaving you feeling worse when the party’s over.

Fire and Road Hazards: Fireworks and crowded roads are two things you’d see during festive periods. They’re both a recipe for disaster. Fireworks add to the vibe of the festivity, but using firecrackers carelessly can cause burns. While driving when drunk is a real danger for the drunk driver, the passengers, and the pedestrian.

Forgetting About Health: With all the excitement, it’s easy to forget the basics like eating proper meals, drinking water, and getting enough sleep. When you constantly skip one or all of them, you feel drained or even sick when you’re supposed to be having fun.

Finally: How To Stay Safe?

Firstly, if you are going to be drinking at a party, you know your limits. But before you start, you need to figure out how you’ll get home safely. There are a couple of options that you can pick from: you can use a ride service like bolt or whatever is available in your area, or you can have your friend drive you home. Try to avoid situations where you feel pressured or down; just stick with people who make you comfortable, and don’t do anything you are not cool with.

If you can, avoid driving during peak hours. If you are going to handle fireworks, do it in an open area with proper supervision. Also, remember to drink plenty of water, eat balanced meals, and get enough rest. Lastly, if you have any medical condition, always keep your prescriptions with you. For example, if you have asthma or other lung issues, always have an inhaler with you.
