Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundation of her 24-year marriage to her husband, Nnamdi Oboli, revealing that the couple made a firm decision to stick together for life—even before they walked down the aisle in 2000.
Speaking in a recent interview with media host Chude Jideonwo, Omoni emphasized that their enduring relationship is rooted in a deliberate choice to rule out divorce completely.
“Being married for over two decades starts with a decision,” she explained. “From the beginning, we agreed that divorce was off the table—even before the wedding.”
The actress, known for her powerful performances and strong public persona, also stressed the value of forgiveness in sustaining a long-term relationship. According to her, most marital challenges can be resolved if both partners are willing to let go of grudges.
“There’s hardly anything someone does that you can’t forgive—if you’re truly willing. We have to remember that nobody is perfect,” she said.
Reflecting on their early days, Omoni admitted that her journey with Nnamdi began unusually fast. After just two weeks of knowing each other, he proposed. Four months later, they were married.
“I was so young. Honestly, I still don’t know how I said yes so quickly. But I fell in love with how he loved me,” she recalled.
Though their first year together was far from smooth, she said their early decision to stay committed made all the difference, especially during difficult moments.
Omoni also revealed that her real-life marital experience inspired her latest film project, a sequel titled After a Night in July. The movie draws from her personal life, especially the emotional highs and lows of her marriage.
Promoting the film on social media, she wrote: “After a Night in July is so special to me because parts of it mirror my real life. My husband proposed two weeks in, and we married four months later! Our first year was turbulent, but we chose love. If you’re married or intend to marry, you’ll learn, laugh, and love.”
With nearly a quarter-century of marriage behind her, Omoni’s story is one of intentional love, forgiveness, and unwavering commitment.
