Popular Nigerian disc jockey Rachel Oluwabukola Martins, known professionally as DJ Dimple Nipple, has shared a harrowing account of what she describes as a traumatic ordeal with immigration authorities in the Philippines.
In a heartfelt Instagram post titled “My Manila Immigration Nightmare,” the entertainer revealed how she and a friend were detained upon arrival in Manila despite having valid travel documents, including visas, sponsorship letters, and return tickets.
“I was so excited about my gig in the Philippines. I had made all the necessary arrangements, spent money, and genuinely looked forward to the experience,” she wrote.
According to her, the problems began as soon as they landed in Manila from Lagos via Qatar. DJ Dimple Nipple alleged that immigration officers were immediately hostile and subjected them to prolonged interrogation, strip searches, and invasive questioning. She also claimed that the authorities filmed them and forced them to sleep on the floor of what she described as a detention facility.
“We greeted the officers politely, but they were cold and unwelcoming… Then came the humiliation,” she recounted.
The DJ accused the Philippine authorities of discrimination and extortion, expressing anger over how Nigerians are treated when traveling abroad—even with proper documentation.
“If you don’t want Nigerians, why approve our visas and take our money? Why detain and shame us when we arrive legally? Why not just place a travel ban?” she asked.
Martins called on the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and immigration officials to provide answers and ensure accountability.
“Traveling legally shouldn’t feel like a crime. We deserve dignity and respect,” she added.
