The management and staff of the Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State has issued a directive to all of its students and staff to resume activities on the campus despite the continued strike action being led by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

According to reports, this announcement was made through a circular released on Monday by the school’s registrar, Mr. Ambrose Odiase. Also contained in the document was the fixed date of resumption: May 26. The registrar said that the Halls of Residence would be opened to the returning students and that they should all return to the campus on the day marked for resumption.

Also announcing its plans to discard the ASUU directive and resume activities was the management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo state. In a similar circular released by the school registrar Dr. Kayode Ogunleye, the management announced it too would resume operations on the 26th of May. An amended academic calendar would soon be released, said the registrar and students and staff were asked to abide by the new directive.

However, the ASUU has kicked against the decision taken by both schools and said that no lecturers would teach regardless of whatever announcement the management of the schools had made. Dr. Biodun Olaniran, the ASUU Chairman of the LAUTECH Branch further warned that the strike action would not be disbanded unless the national body announced it. Even if the students returned, no academic activities would take place.
