Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, lashed out the chance of Lionel Messi playing again at the club, referring to the idea as “unrealistic”.
The Argentine phenom showed up at Camp Nou unannounced on Sunday and told the media that he would like to come back one day – not only to say goodbye as a player, but also to reunite with the club where he spent 20 years. Nevertheless, Laporta was emphatic that a return is not among his options.
“Manner-wise, I think, to Messi, to the professionals at Barça, and to our members, it is not really appropriate to come up with a fiction of expectations,” Laporta said to Catalunya Radio. “Barça is above everything.”

Lionel Messi, the most goalscorer and appearance holder of the club, moved to PSG in 2021 as a result of the club’s financial problems. He currently plays for Inter Miami and is in Spain training with Argentina for a friendly match against Angola.
Laporta also comfirmed that a special game would be organized to honour thier most prolific player of all time after the building of the Spotify Nou Camp. “We didn’t finish it the way we wanted, but this tribute could be the reason for that. I think it would be great for him to get the best goodbye in the world, in front of 105,000 fans,” he said.
