The official music video for Seyi Vibez’s hit song Different Pattern has disappeared from YouTube after a copyright complaint was filed over the song’s opening segment.

The issue centres on the use of vintage Nigerian sounds drawn from the works of the late highlife icon Orlando Owoh and legendary Apala musician Musiliu Haruna Ishola. According to details surrounding the claim, the takedown was triggered by the alleged unauthorised use of Orlando Owoh’s material.

Different Pattern featured prominently on Seyi Vibez’s NAHAMciaga EP, which dropped in December 2023 and enjoyed massive commercial success, emerging as one of the most-streamed Nigerian projects of 2024. The music video was reportedly pulled from the platform in the early hours of today.

At the time of its release, the song was issued under Dapper Music, the label Seyi Vibez later exited in September 2024 before launching his independent outfit, Vibez INC.

Seyi Vibez has built a reputation for fusing traditional Nigerian music influences with modern street-inspired sounds. In the past, he has incorporated samples from classic works, including Sola Allyson’s Eji Owuro, on his Billion Dollar Baby project.

The incident underscores the complexities artists face in today’s digital music space, particularly when creative sampling collides with strict copyright regulations.

Orlando Owoh, who died in 2008, remains one of Nigeria’s most revered highlife bandleaders, while Musiliu Haruna Ishola, widely acknowledged as the pioneer of Apala music, passed away in 1983 and left behind a rich catalogue of influential recordings.

As of the time of writing, Seyi Vibez and his management have yet to issue a formal response to the YouTube removal.
