Popular Nigerian cleric and philanthropist, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has publicly encouraged Afrobeats star Davido following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
While addressing his congregation, Odumeje spoke glowingly about the singer, insisting that Davido’s influence and accomplishments outweigh any single award. He described the artiste as a “generational award” whose success has already been firmly established.

“There is one of our brothers that I love so much. That is a very great musician, and that is Davido. You are already a generational award, awarded a lot of awards,” he said.
According to the cleric, formal accolades no longer define Davido’s worth or career milestones. “There is no award that you will receive now that means anything. You have already been awarded any award you need. Your life is an award. Your step is an award,” Odumeje added.
He further urged the singer not to allow the Grammy outcome dampen his spirit or creative drive, encouraging him to return with even more impactful music.
“Don’t allow ordinary somebody to come and begin to use it to quench the fire of your joy. So go out and get more inspiration to shock the world with another new music. Don’t go where you are not accepted,” he said.
Odumeje also cautioned Davido against negative voices, reminding him of his global standing. “Be careful. You are already on top of the world. The world is the one that will come into you. Don’t allow people to demoralise you, demoralise your quality, and decentralise you, and make you weak,” he added.
At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla emerged the winner of the Best African Music Performance category, beating Davido, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.
Despite the result, Odumeje maintained that Davido’s legacy and international impact remain solid, encouraging him to continue dominating the global music scene.
