Serena Williams has been a topic of discussion again after her name surfaced in potential coming-back to professional tennis rumors, even though the 23-time Grand Slam champion has publicly downplayed the idea of going back.
The debate got heated when journalist Ben Rothenberg claimed in his reports that Williams’ comeback was “undeniable and official”, but the American legend hasn’t revealed any plans to compete yet. Besides that, there was more speculation after the International Tennis Integrity Agency included her in their anti-doping testing pool, which is a compulsory condition for the current players on the Women’s Tennis Association circuit.

Williams is due to finish the six-month re-entry period on February 22. After that, she will be legally allowed to take part in competitions again. According to this schedule, she would be allowed to play at the next tournaments, such as Indian Wells and Miami in March, as well as clay and grass ones later in the season like Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon.
It’s been reported that her willingness to make a comeback goes as far as August 2025, when she attempted to get reinstated before the US Open but was considered not eligible after she quit the testing pool following her retirement in 2022.
The possible comeback of 44-year-old Williams would indeed be an amazing chapter in the history of tennis, following the example of her sister Venus Williams, who is also still playing, and it would bring back the discussion about one of the greatest sports competitors stepping onto the court again.
