Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, has announced that he has withdrawn the ongoing custody case involving his daughter, Imade Adeleke, and her mother, Sophia Momodu.
The singer made the revelation in a series of emotional posts shared on his Instagram stories late Friday night, clarifying that he never sought sole custody of his daughter but only joint custody.
According to Davido, the legal battle had no real victor, stressing that the situation only ended up hurting Imade, which made it wrong for anyone to celebrate the court proceedings.
“1. I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody
“2. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating.. there’s nothing to celebrate.”
He further disclosed that he decided to discontinue the case after being deeply disturbed by what he described as an inappropriate and painful reference to his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, during court arguments.
“3. I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the court room all .. she would get so frustrated .. because normally I finish school .. I was finishing her .. until she brought out her last card ! MY DECEASED SON ! THATS A NO NO ! Lowest blow!”
Davido added that despite the outcome, his daughter would one day understand that he stood up for her, urging all parties to move past the dispute.
“4. My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her .. let’s move on ❤️???? One love !”
In a separate post, the singer openly criticised Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, the legal representative of Sophia Momodu, accusing her of unprofessional conduct and insensitivity for mentioning his late son in court.
“@belachukwu … I disgraced you in the courtroom.. I was teaching you your work you couldn’t even take it and then went on to mention My Son.. like I said in the courtroom I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever .. and u were still smiling smirking .. u are a wicked human being. UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER I BEAT YOU IN COURT! YOU ARE NOT LEARNED.”
The custody dispute gained widespread attention after lawyer Maruf Mohammed claimed on X that Davido appeared in court in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday and became visibly upset during cross-examination, leading to heightened tension in the courtroom.
With his latest announcement, the singer has now confirmed that he has chosen to end the legal battle in the interest of his daughter and emotional well-being.
