Christine Drazan has secured the Republican nomination for governor of Oregon, setting the stage for a rematch against Democratic Governor Tina Kotek in the November general election.
Drazan emerged victorious from a crowded 14-candidate Republican primary race, earning another opportunity to challenge Kotek after narrowly losing to her in the 2022 election by less than four percentage points.
Although Oregon has traditionally leaned Democratic, political observers expect the race to draw significant attention, given the close result in the previous election cycle.
Republicans have not won a gubernatorial election in Oregon since 1982, while former Vice President Kamala Harris carried the state comfortably in the 2024 presidential election.

Drazan previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives, where she held the position of Republican leader, before later winning election to the state Senate.
Her campaign has largely focused on economic concerns, including reducing housing costs and addressing the rising cost of living for residents.
Among the candidates defeated by Drazan in the primary was Chris Dudley, a former professional basketball player and financial planner who previously ran for Oregon governor in 2010.
Dudley was the Republican nominee that year but lost to former Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber by fewer than two percentage points.
