Tamunosoye Karibi-George, affectionately known as Soye, is not just competing at Miss World 2026 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. She is telling a story and she is doing it through fashion.

Every outfit she has worn on the global stage has been deliberate. Not just pretty. Not just pageant-worthy. But intentional. A way of carrying Nigeria —and specifically the Niger Delta— with her.

The Evening Gown: Green, White and Green

For her final walk, 26-year-old Karibi-George chose a gown in green, white and green. A representation of the Nigerian flag. “Tonight, I wear home,” she wrote on Instagram.

The gown was designed to let Nigeria “speak without saying a word,” with every detail reflecting the flag she had carried throughout her journey.

“Green, white and green — tonight, I wear home,” she had posted.

The ‘Amazon of the Mangrove’ Costume

But perhaps her most powerful fashion moment was not the evening gown. It was the costume inspired by the “Amazon of the Mangrove”.

This was her way of paying tribute to the strength of women, the richness of the Niger Delta, and the relationship between its people and their environment.

The look told a story: Black represented pollution. Smoke reflected compromised air. Fire spoke to burning forests. Cracked earth represented the uncertain future created by environmental degradation. Above these darker elements were clouds carrying hope, as a reminder that destruction does not have to be the final chapter.

“I come from Nigeria’s Niger Delta, a land blessed with rivers, forests and oil, yet too often burdened by the consequences of its exploitation,” she explained.

The costume transformed fashion into advocacy. It brought the Niger Delta beyond Nigeria’s borders and placed its environmental realities within a global conversation about climate change.

Beyond the Finale: A Runway of Purpose

Karibi-George’s fashion journey at Miss World has gone beyond traditional pageant glamour. She has used every appearance to communicate something about who she is, where she comes from, and what she believes in.

Her Top Model Final look, wrapped in sparkle and Nigerian pride, captured the glamour expected of the competition while allowing her confidence and presence to take centre stage. Her performance in the Dance of the World presentation featured an elaborate creation that drew from Africa’s landscape, with carefully constructed details and natural elements that created a visual representation of the continent’s beauty, terrain, and connection to nature.

Even her choice of “Opportunity” by Sia for the talent segment was a deliberate way of expressing gratitude for the chance to represent Nigeria and share a piece of the country with the world.

Karibi-George is not just a model. She is also a communications professional and an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Before winning the national crown in June 2026, she had already won Miss Africa International 2024 in Accra, Ghana. She is the founder of the Beyond Labels Initiative, a project focused on championing inclusion, dignity, and empowerment for children with disabilities and special needs.
