The “God’s Plan” singer netted over a million dollars after betting big on his home country, Canada, to get the win against South Africa during the FIFA World Cup match. After throwing $770,000 down on Canada, Drake was gifted a cool $1,001,000 with a profit of $231,000.
The rapper announced the winning wager on his Instagram story and attributed the bet to a playful jab he had with South African artist DJ Black Coffee.
“Black Coffee was chirping in the DM, so I had to raise the stakes,” Drake posted along with a screenshot of the betting slip.

The Canadian national team secured a stunning victory when midfielder Stephen Eustquio buried a stoppage-time winner against the co-host, and it became clear Canada would advance to the World Cup’s round of 16, marking the country’s first-ever entry in that round.
South Africa’s valiant run comes to a heartbreaking end; Hugo Broos’ squad had enjoyed a memorable performance in the tournament, especially their convincing group stage victory over South Korea, but they were unfortunately knocked out by their defeat against Canada.
This latest bet is far from the first sports bet made public by the Canadian artist – since partnering with online crypto betting operation Stake in 2021, Drake has made several well-documented large bets on high-profile sporting events, ranging from the NBA to Formula 1 and including past FIFA World Cup competitions, UFC, and the Super Bowl.
