Police are calling on supporters to plan their travel carefully for the upcoming England FIFA World Cup clash against Mexico when emotions are expected to be high during and after the match.
FIFA has confirmed that England’s Round of 16 game against Mexico will be played in Mexico City at the planned kick-off time of 1 am Monday morning (6 pm local time), after rumours had suggested it might be moved forward.
The Superintendent for Devon and Cornwall Police, Joe Matthews, urged supporters to think about drinking and driving, as even small amounts of alcohol can severely affect concentration and reaction time.

“Drinking alcohol can lead to impaired reactions, poor judgment of speed and distance, and reduced vision. There’s no ‘safeguard’ way to drink alcohol and still drive within the limits, as everyone is different.”
“The body gets rid of alcohol through time and nothing else – not sleep, a strong cup of coffee or a substantial cooked breakfast,” added Mr Matthews.
“Please dial 999 if you are concerned about anyone driving whilst under the influence; it could be a life-saving call.”
Devon County Council Highways Department is also advising members of the public to take heed of the risks posed by fatigue during this late-night match. They recommend that fans ensure they are well-rested and take regular breaks on longer car journeys.
