A major moment happened during a high-profile Senate hearing when Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche officially stated that Donald Trump is constitutionally barred from running for another term in office. While answering tough questions under oath, Blanche responded directly to senators asking if the current president could run again in the future. “I don’t believe he is,” Blanche replied, confirming that he believes Trump is ineligible for 3rd term due to the clear limits set by the United States Constitution.

Why the Statement on Trump Ineligible for 3rd Term Matters

The admission caused an immediate stir across Washington. Todd Blanche, who previously served as Donald Trump’s personal defense attorney, is currently being considered by the Senate to lead the Department of Justice. Because of his close personal and professional ties to the president, senators on both sides of the aisle wanted to know if he would support any attempts to bypass the 22nd Amendment, which limits U.S. presidents to two terms.

By plainly stating that he believes Trump is ineligible for 3rd term, Blanche drew a firm line regarding his respect for constitutional boundaries. The statement is important because some loyal supporters have occasionally floated the idea of extending Trump’s time in office, and Blanche’s answer signals that the Justice Department under his leadership would not legally defend or support such an effort.

My Opinion on Todd Blanche’s Constitution Admission

The fact that a nominee for attorney general has to be asked whether they will uphold a basic, written rule of the U.S. Constitution shows how chaotic American politics has become. Under normal circumstances, confirming that a president cannot serve a third term would not be news at all, it would be treated as common sense. The 22nd Amendment is not vague; it says a person cannot be elected to the office of the President more than twice.

However, given how Todd Blanche built his career defending Donald Trump through various high-stakes legal battles, it was absolutely critical for the Senate to put him on the spot. Blanche needed to prove that his ultimate loyalty belongs to the law of the land, not to his former client.

By stating clearly that he believes Trump is ineligible for 3rd term, Blanche did exactly what was required of him to show he is fit to lead the Department of Justice. It was a smart legal and political move. If he had hesitated or given a slippery, evasive answer, his nomination would have been dead in the water. Upholding the Constitution is the bare minimum requirement for anyone who wants to be the top law enforcement officer in the country, and Blanche passed this particular.

Bottom Line

Todd Blanche’s confirmation hearing has made it crystal clear where the potential future attorney general stands on executive power. By openly stating that he believes Trump is ineligible for 3rd term, Blanche has reassured lawmakers that he intends to respect the constitutional term limits that have governed the presidency since 1951. While the nomination process is far from over, this crucial admission has set a firm boundary for the legal future of the country.
