Winfred Nakanwagi, a well-known Ugandan artist famous as Winnie Nwagi, has no sweet words for Nigerian artists for their inability to promote and enhance Ugandan music in their country, as she says ” Nigerian Artists Look down a lot on Ugandan Music and artists”

Winnie Nwagi who disclosed this during an interview section on a local radio station lamented the non-selfless conduct of many Nigerian artists when working on a project with Ugandan artists or when in collaboration with artists from Uganda. Despite her years of working with stars from Nigeria, Winnie Nwagi attributes Nigerian artists as people who take advantage of the Ugandan artist’s projects to build their brands in Uganda because artists from Uganda drive more effort to promote the song in the country.

“We love making collaborations with Nigerian artists. It is good because just consider a song made with Burna Boy. It would be a massive hit here in Uganda because you would push it so well here (in Uganda). He can even assist you and shoot the video if he has time but that artist will not push the song in Nigeria, ” Nwagi lamented

She explained that Naija artists do not get to return the favor to promote the songs from Ugandan artists in Nigeria which is bad luck on their side.

Winnie Nwagi suggested that the type of collaboration between artists from different countries (especially collabos of Nigerian artists with Ugandan artists) should be mutually-beneficial and that every effort requires reciprocity.

“I don’t know why Nigerian artists feel sweet. I’m just personally feeling like I also resent them now. We have artists here who have worked with them in a series of collaborations but this music doesn’t play in their clubs, or anywhere. It stops here. They don’t push our music”  bittered Winnie said

Winnie Nwagi has worked with Nigeria’s well-known artist, Slim Prince. She worked with him to dish out her hit song titled “Fire Dancer”, the song made it a “fan favorite” in her country, Uganda. Unfortunately, the song did not trend much (or not at all) in Nigeria.

“His name should have been a warning (red flag) that there was a ‘Slim’ chance he would give her track royal treatment in his country, Nigeria” She chuckled

Other Ugandan artists who have been reportedly denied an entrance into the Naija music market include; Bebe Cool, Fik Fameica, and Jose Chameleone, among others.
