A fire was reported to have raided and damaged a shop and toilet at Bayaro University’s Staff Elementary School in Kano.
This was said in a statement by Alhaji Baminu Abdulahi, the public relations officer for the Kano State Fire Department. He said he received a phone call informing him of the fire and that a rescue team was dispatched immediately to put out the fire and stop it from spreading. When they got there, a shop and a toilet were completely burned out. And that there are investigations to find out what caused the fire.
According to Abdullahi, “We received an emergency call from one Halliru Bello at around 5:53 p.m. and immediately dispatched our rescue team to the scene at around 5:58 p.m. to prevent the fire from spreading to other classes.
“A ground floor building of approximately 200 x 200 feet used as a staff children’s elementary school, one block containing the principal’s office, a men’s staff room, and a women’s staff room was slightly burned while a store and restroom were completely destroyed by the inferno.
“The cause of the fire is being determined,” he said.
We thank God that no life was lost. Next time fire extinguishers must be placed in the schools.
