Twelve new Executive Directors, including five women, have joined the African Development Bank for a three-year term.

The newly appointed members of the 20-member Board of Directors were greeted by Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank Group. They began a four-day induction session to acquaint themselves with the business of the bank on September 1, 2022, after officially joining the Board on August 1, 2022.

There are now five women on the board, up from three previously. Formerly the Deputy Director of the Treasury and External Finance in Morocco, where she was in charge of relations with the Arab and Islamic world, America, Asia, and international organizations, Malika Dhif is now the Executive Director for Morocco, Togo, and Tunisia. Chantal Modeste Nonault, a chartered accountant who serves as the administrative and financial director of the World Bank regional office in Mali, is in charge of representing Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Chad.

Following the general election of Executive Directors by the Boards of Governors during the African Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in Accra, Ghana, in May 2022, the new board members were chosen. Twenty people make up the African Development Bank’s board of directors. Seven members are chosen by the Governors of non-regional member countries and thirteen by the Governors of regional member countries (54 African nations) (27 countries). The Executive Directors are chosen for three years, with one opportunity for renewal.

The management of the bank’s general operations is under the purview of the Board of Directors. They meet as frequently as the needs of the bank dictate at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is the Bank’s President.
