The Federal Government established a 13-member Presidential Committee on Tuesday to examine the number and plan for funding Nigerian diplomatic missions around the world.

President Muhammadu Buhari will be able to address the core cause of the dire state of affairs facing Nigerian diplomatic missions thanks to the initiative, according to Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) who officiated the committee’s inauguration.

This is in addition to the missions’ effects on Nigeria’s reputation in particular and the international scene in general, he said.

He added that early results showed that the core causes of the difficulties were interconnected and systemic, but regretted that all the efforts were sadly in vain.

According to him, the committee’s timeframe for activities is three months, and its mandate is to identify the present number, types, and locations of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions as well as any international subject matter bureaus.

According to him, the committee would identify problems, offer suitable suggestions for long-term actions, and explain why earlier efforts by the previous administration had failed.

The chairman of the committee, Amb. Martin Uhomoibhi responded on behalf of the other members and thanked the president and the SGF for the honor of the assignment.

Uhomoibhi, however, reaffirmed the committee’s willingness to do everything in its power to meet the criteria and maintain president Buhari’s faith in them.
