The Taraba State House of Assembly workers, under the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, have commenced an indefinite strike, over the non-payment of their seven years outfit allowances from the state government.
PASAN declared the strike on Monday, November 7 in a statement jointly signed by its State Chairman, Ibrahim Bala Yusuf, and Secretary, Abdullahi Abubakar.
The Assembly workers had previously complained that all efforts to resolve the issue with the Taraba State governor, Governor Darius Ishaku, and prevent embarking on the strike had proved futile.
According to the association, they had given the leadership of the Assembly seven days to pay the outstanding allowances but that was not done by the ultimatum’s expiration date.
PASAN had noted that following the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum issued to the leadership of this Assembly on issues that border on the outfit allowance of the staff of the State Assembly, “the leadership of this famous union has no option but to direct members of this union to stay away from work from Monday, the 7th day of November 2022”.
Recall that PASAN had in a letter dated October 26, 2022, threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if the state government declines to comply with their demands.
The ongoing strike will possibly delay the state government’s plan to submit the 2023 budget this week if it is not resolved immediately.
