According to the federal government, it has devised a National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency policy, as well as Vision 30:30:30, to add 30,000MW of electricity to the national grid by 2030.

Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, announced this yesterday in Abuja at the 5th National Council on Power, which had the topic “Sustaining and Improving Electricity Supply via the Power Sector Value Chain for Socio-Economic Growth.”

According to Aliyu, renewable energy would account for 30% of the policy’s energy mix.

He stated that renewable energy was taking center stage in the current power sector changes, as seen by the ongoing and finished projects in the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project, which is 97% complete.

The minister stated that it is expected to deliver 700 Megawatts to the national grid, while the Kashimbila Hydroelectricity Project will provide 40 Megawatts to the grid. In addition, the Dadin-kowa dam contributes 40 Megawatts to the national grid, among other things.”

According to him, numerous changes are being implemented in the power sector to improve it, and the government is now investing in electricity infrastructure.

He stated that these investments were made specifically in the Nigerian Transmission Company through various actions.

The minister stated that the programs to enhance the national grid were supported by international organizations such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, and others.
