Adeleke Rebuffs Tribunal Verdict Braces for Appeal

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has tagged the judgment of the governorship election petitions tribunal as a miscarriage of justice, promising his supporters to challenge the latest ruling at the Court of Appeal.

The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing of the All Progressives Congress’ Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition against the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke on Friday, January 27 had annulled the result of the July 16, 2022, Osun governorship poll.

The presiding Judge, Justice Tetsea Kume, while delivering the majority decision, declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC did not comply substantially with the Nigerian constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Meanwhile, while reacting to the verdict of the tribunal from his country home in Ede, Adeleke had faulted the resolution of the over-voting question in favor of Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, calling it a biased interpretation ‘against the will of the majority of voters.

Adeleke had also urged his supporters to remain calm while promising to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal, as he is insisting that he is the rightful winner of the July 16 election.

“I ask our people to remain calm. We will be appealing the judgment and we are sure justice will triumph. Let our people rest assured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate,” the governor had said in a statement signed by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, on Friday.
