A certain man named Celestine has been arrested by the Amotekun corps in Ekiti State after he was caught with fake 1,000 naria new notes amounting to 250,000 thousand naira.
The suspect was displayed at the Amotekun Headquarters in Ekiti State, according to the Suspect, he is from Anambra state, but he is a Lagos State-based businessman who was heading to Kogi State to purchase Kolanuts and bitter kola.
He further said that he was roped into the situation, as the money was given to him by a customer in Lagos State without knowing that they were fake and that he has been trying to contact the customer.
The suspect, who spoke at the Amotekun State headquarters, Ado Ekiti, where he was paraded with the money, described himself as a victim of circumstances, saying, “I collected the fake new naira notes from a customer in Lagos State without knowing that they were not genuine.
”Following my arrest, I had tried to contact him for my release, I am still expecting to hear from him,” the suspect said.
The Amotekun state commander, Gen. Joe. Komolafe said that they were informed of the presence of fake naira notes in the area, by Point Sales Operators in the area, Amotekun Operatives immediately swung into action, after getting the information and arrested the suspect.
Komolafe said, “Amotekun operatives were alerted by some Point of Sale operators on the discovery of the fake new naira notes in the area. On receipt of the information, our men swung into action and arrested the suspect with large quantities of the fake naira note”
Nigerians were earned to be very careful, as fake news naira notes are in circulation, and everyone should be mindful of the way they collect the new notes.
According to sec 21 of the CBN Act of 2007, it is illegal to forge or duplicate naira notes. The Security agencies have to be on alert as due to the naira Scarcity fake naira notes will be in circulation. Business owners have to find a way of identifying money to be able to detect both fake and real naira notes.
Nigeria is going through one of its worst seasons, and some miscreants would find ways to commit crimes in the situation.
