The National Electoral Commission (INEC) was urged yesterday by the Centre for Accountability and Inclusive Development (CAAID) and other organizations to make sure that all voting unit results from the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections were immediately uploaded on the IReV portal.

The CAAID and 18 more partners received INEC accreditation, received training, and were sent out as election observers to observe and report on the voting processes around the nation.

The group noted that during the election, it was particularly suspected that “difficult was confronted when uploading the presidential results, but those of the National Assembly elections went on easily.”

Olayinka Akeredolu-Martins, Executive Director, of Initiative for Africa Society Inclusion and Diversity for Development Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Coordinator CAAID Domestic Observer Group, and Okache Emmanuel Ekpo, Executive Director, of Aspire Aspire African Youth Empowerment, presented the partnership’s findings to journalists and stated that 321 observers were deployed across 22 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Even though most polling places reported a peaceful election, she claimed that incidents of voter intimidation and suppression were reported in a number of the places she visited.

The organizations advised everyone who felt wronged to keep their composure, express their displeasure through the judicial system, and refrain from taking any acts that could lead to societal disturbance, among other things.

They also requested the commission to begin the results review to confirm the claims that the process’ integrity had been compromised.

The election observer group urged the commission to take swift action to prevent a repetition of the issues noted during the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections.
