The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has committed to continue arresting and prosecuting individuals engaged in the fabrication and distribution of counterfeit redesigned naira notes.
The corps’ Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja that the number of incidents of fake naira notes in circulation had grown concerning.
He warned perpetrators to stop, stressing that the corps would not back down and would continue to arrest and prosecute those participating in the country’s economic sabotage.
According to him, the corps had caught and recovered bogus naira notes worth millions from members of syndicates in several states across the country in less than a month.
According to the C-G, while questioning the majority of the arrested suspects, it was discovered that the fraudsters took advantage of the poor circulation of the redesigned naira notes to mass-produce counterfeit notes.
Several unsuspecting Nigerians must have fallen prey to their ploy while collecting bank money transfers and foreign currency exchanges.
Audi urged citizens to avoid becoming victims of fraudsters by transacting with banks, especially when substantial funds were involved.
