The House of Representatives has summoned regulators and telecommunications carriers to discuss the poor coverage and spread of their services in Nigeria.

The invitees, which include the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, and 9Mobile, will be questioned at an investigation hearing scheduled for April 8 to 10, 2023.

The House ad hoc committee on the Need to Investigate the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Failure/Inability to Promote Widespread Availability and Usage of Mobile Telecommunication Network Services Throughout Nigeria, as well as Accruals/Utilisation of Funds in the Universal Service Provision Fund, issued the invitation.

According to a notice issued by the ad hoc committee, the panel will also hear from the USPF’s Governing Board, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Auditor General of the Federation, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Nigerian telecommunications equipment vendors, and civil society organizations.

Bamidele Salam, chairman of the committee, stated in the notice that the invitation and request for memoranda from relevant stakeholders were based on an earlier resolution by the House.
