Rivers Politics: Resigned Commissioners Back for Screening – But is it Fair?
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Rivers State House of Assembly just threw a curveball that’s got everyone talking. Remember those nine commissioners who quit months ago? Well, guess what? They’re back, and they’re up for screening to rejoin the government!

“Didn’t they resign?” we ask. “Why bring them back instead of finding fresh faces?” Well, that’s where things get juicy. Seems this sudden U-turn is part of a peace deal between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, ex-Governor Wike. Apparently, the two political giants had a nasty spat, but President Tinubu stepped in and played peacemaker. One of the conditions? Bringing those commissioners back on board!

So, is this a win for Rivers? That’s the million-naira question. Some people are cheering, saying it’s time to heal the wounds and move on. Others are grumbling about favouritism and backroom deals. They say it’s unfair to the people who missed out on a chance to serve, just because two bigwigs shook hands.

Rivers Politics: Resigned Commissioners Back for Screening – But is it Fair?

Honestly, both sides have a point. Bringing back experienced folks can be helpful, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of ignoring fresh talent. And let’s be real, favouritism in Nigerian politics is no secret. But hey, maybe this is a step towards a more inclusive future. Who knows?

One thing’s for sure: the drama in Rivers ain’t over yet. Keep your eyes peeled for the screening on Wednesday, January 17th. It’s gonna be a wild, oshey!
