President Muhammadu Buhari has received a made-in-Nigeria android phone at the State House in Abuja.

This was made known by the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The post read,

“President Buhari receives a ‘Made in Nigeria’ android phone from the Minister of Trade and Investment earlier this morning shortly before the commencement of this week’s Federal Executive Council Meeting at the State House, Abuja.

“Are you ready to start using Made in Nigeria phones?”

This is coming days after the Federal Government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of social media platform, Twitter, in Nigeria.

What Are Nigerians Saying About The ‘Made In Nigeria’ Android Phone?

@Nemerem_Ezeoka wrote:  “I can never buy/use a phone made by a government I don’t trust,a country that can’t guarantee you security …. It’s more like a tracking device to me.”

@slimchik123 wondered who the manufacturers of the phones are, their location, company name and other data.

“What’s the name of the company? Where is it located? Why are Nigerians not aware of the company? This Buhari’s Government is full of scam.”

@Tee_Classiquem1 slammed Buhari, saying: “All he does is snap pictures, wear new Kaftan & nose mask and pay less concern to the main problems facing the country. Herdsmen killed close to 50 people at Igangan two days ago, fresh attack claimed lives and property in Zamfara today, but he’s more concerned about posing with android.”

@Realkogiboy said he will take the president serious when he starts using made in Nigeria products.

“Even Davido that’s ambassador for Infinix don’t use it, I will take Buhari serious when he start using Nigeria made cars and not Benz, afterall it’s about choice if you like manufacture 10 billion pieces “.

Meanwhile minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami on Thursday, June 3, asserted that in the next two years, the government would make available not less than 60% of materials needed for the local production of technological inventions in the telecom industry.

Pantami added that so far, the ministry had provided an enabling environment to actualise this grand goal.

The minister who spoke at an All Progressives Congress (APC) professional forum in Abuja on thursday explained that the country has the potentials to produce 200 million SIM cards every year.

He said: “We came up with a policy that in the next two to three years, a minimum of 60 to 70 percent of what we need in the telecommunications sector is going to be produced locally and we have started it.

“When this administration came on board, even SIM cards were imported into Nigeria. But, as it is today, the Federal Government has provided an enabling environment for the private sector to produce SIM cards, not only for our consumption but for the entire African continent.”
