Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has downplayed reports suggesting Darwin Nunez could depart Anfield this summer, amidst speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona.
Recent reports have indicated Nunez’s discontent at Liverpool, with Barcelona reportedly eyeing him as a potential replacement for the aging Robert Lewandowski. However, Klopp has refuted these claims, asserting his lack of knowledge regarding any potential exit for the Uruguayan striker.
“There is no speculation,” stated Klopp. “It must be an external speculation because I don’t know about it, but maybe I’m not involved in it anymore. There is no speculation right now. It is just the situation we are in.”
Klopp expressed confidence in Nunez’s abilities, despite recent challenges on the field. He emphasized the striker’s resilience in the face of adversity, highlighting the tough nature of football and the need for players to overcome obstacles.
“Yes, Darwin was definitely not happy missing that chance,” Klopp acknowledged. “He is, let me say ‘was’ because that could have changed now, unlucky in so many situations where he is doing everything right and then the ball still doesn’t go in.”
