Hon. Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesman for the House of Representatives, has ascribed the parliament’s various achievements to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas’ remarkable leadership style.

In a media interview marking the House’s first anniversary, Agbese lauded Abbas’ imaginative leadership, which has enabled the Green Chamber to make historic legislative accomplishments.

The Deputy Spokesman praised Abbas’ efforts to foster unity and inclusivity among members, saying that “the House has become a beacon of hope for Nigerians, and a symbol of what can be achieved through collective effort and dedication.”

He also applauded the Speaker’s capacity to communicate with stakeholders, such as civil society organisations, the commercial sector, and the executive branch of government.

He stated: “His leadership style is a testament to the power of collaborative leadership, and we are proud to be part of his team,” added Agbese.

What they’re saying

“He has advocated for gender equality, youth empowerment, and transparency in governance.

“We are delighted to be associated with the successes of this parliament, which we credit entirely to our Speaker’s leadership style.

“Under Abbas’ leadership, the House passed numerous significant laws, including the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, Economic Diversification Bill, National Health Insurance Act, and Education Reform Bill. In the first six months, 120 bills advanced to the second reading stage.

“All of these laws aim to provide both immediate relief and long-term answers to the problems that have afflicted our society.
“Through these laws, the House empowers our citizens, promotes social justice, economic progress, and peace and security.

“The bills have far-reaching consequences for Nigeria’s economic growth, healthcare development, and education sector.

“The Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, for example, will address host communities’ development and environmental concerns by allocating 5% of the actual annual operating expenditures of power generation companies (GENCOs) from the previous year to the development of their respective host communities.

“The Speaker’s impartiality, humility, and determination have gained him respect and appreciation from his colleagues, stakeholders, and the Nigerian people. His leadership style is defined by openness, inclusiveness, and a desire to listen.

“As a House, we believe this is just the starting point” .

Bottom Line

This is the positive assessment of the Nigerian House of Representatives’ performance, crediting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas’ leadership for their overall success.
