Argentina has mocked Canadian rapper Drake after he lost a $300,000 bet on the Copa America semi-final between Canada and Argentina. Drake stood to win $2.8 million if Canada, led by Jesse Marsch, had won the game on Tuesday night. However, goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi secured a 2-0 victory for the Albiceleste.
Following the game, Argentina’s official AFA account referenced Kendrick Lamar’s iconic diss track “Not Like Us,” targeting Drake. They posted a picture of Messi and his teammates celebrating with the caption: “Not like us, not with us.”
Drake shared his bet slip on Instagram earlier on Tuesday, writing, “This could get Messi @stake.” He was expecting an estimated payout of $2,880,000 if Canada had advanced, but they lost 2-0 to the reigning world champions at New York’s MetLife Stadium.
Goals by Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez ensured the South Americans reached the final. Argentina will now face the winner of the semifinal clash between Uruguay and Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Sunday, July 14. Meanwhile, Canada will compete in the third-place playoff against the loser of that fixture.
