MURIC Urges Ban Over Niqab Depiction
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Muslim group called Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded that the federal government ban a controversial film featuring Nancy Isime. Getting into the details from DAILY POST, Nancy, recently, unveiled a poster that advertises a movie called Blood Brothers; in the poster, she is wearing a niqab and at the same time holding a pistol. The niqab is one of the types of Hijab that is commonly used by Muslims to cover their bodies and their faces with the exemption of the eyes.

As expected, the insulting Our poster has caused a massive response on social media and many Muslims are angry at the portrayal of an armed woman in niqab who is holding a robbery scene. Consequently, MURIC’s director, Ishaq Akintola, was not left behind in the heated debate and on Thursday, labeled the film as satanic and anti-Muslim.

Akintola urged the NFVCB to have the movie banned for promoting mere Islamophobia, and portraying Muslim women as some sort of criminals. He noted that the proposed film is a clear act of using propaganda to encourage hatred against Muslim women and to reduce the usage of hijab and niqab among the female population.

Akintola stressed that the film may provoke unrest in Nigeria provided that the problem is not solved by the respective authorities as soon as possible. He called on Nigerian Muslims especially those who have been very vocal in their clamor for their rights to exercise patience and allow the authorities to deal with it.
