The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has removed the ban placed on actress and producer Adanma Luke, a few months after losing young actor Junior Pope. The accident which occurred on the 10th of April, 2024 was on a boat that capsized in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State. Junior pope and four crew members drowned on the way to the shooting of the movie “The Other Side of Life” directed by Luke.

The AGN then suspended Adanma Luke for violating safety measures as well as banned her from working with other members. This was done to come to the rescue of the issues of safety on film sets especially on the risky areas such as the riverine.

Speaking in a recent statement, the AGN National Secretary Abubakar Yakubu, disclosed that the association had lifted the suspension on Adanma Luke. The guild’s National President, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, ratified the decision and removed the restriction stopping filmmaking in riverine zones. However, he urged citizens to observe all the safety measures laid down in the AGN Bylaws.

This is therefore a major boost for the growth of the Nigeria film industry since the filmmakers will be in a position to shoot their movies in the riverine areas after observing the standard precautionary measures. The removal of the suspension also allows the actress, Adanma Luke, to go back to practicing in the industry after the mishap.

This fine decision made by the AGN shows how critical a society has to be in ensuring that appropriate safety measures are followed in places such as movie production scenes that are most likely to cause harm. Taking all the aforesaid into consideration, it remains hysterically relevant that safety and responsibility will always remain at the forefront of the industry.
