The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development has appointed seven individuals to lead strategic agencies and programs. The appointments have been authorised by President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement published last night by Presidential spokesman Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the appointment is intended to provide critical relief for Nigerians while also ensuring the efficiency of humanitarian and social development projects.

The National Social Investment Programme Agency, or NSIPA, has appointed Dr. Badamasi Lawal as its chief executive officer, according to the release.

Dr. Lawal was a commissioner in Katsina State before earning his doctorate in education. Program Manager of the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office is Ms. Funmilola Olotu. She is the Lagos State Governor’s Senior Special Assistant for state lotteries and has a master’s degree in business administration.

Ms. Aishat Alubankudi, the Programme Manager, Grant for Vulnerable Groups, has a bachelor’s degree in community development.

The new Programme Manager for Home Grown School Feeding, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, has experience as a risk assessor and financial manager. She also possesses a PhD degree. She is the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Civic Engagement, having previously served as a local government chairperson.

Mr. Abdullahi Alhassan Imam, who has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and has worked as chief accountant for Northern Dairies Ltd and as a bank manager, has been appointed Programme Manager of the National Cash Transfer Office. Mr. Ayuba Gufwan has been appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for People with Disabilities.

Mr. Gufwan has an LLB and is the executive director of the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre in Jos, while Ms. Lami Binta Adamu Bello is the Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking.

Ms. Binta has a Master’s degree in public administration and has previously served as the Secretary-General of ALGON, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

In Essence

The appointees bring diverse backgrounds and expertise to their roles, which can be beneficial in addressing the complex challenges faced by their respective agencies. For example, Dr. Badamasi Lawal’s background in education and public service, and Ms. Funmilola Olotu’s experience in business administration and state lotteries, suggest a mix of skills that can enhance the management of social investment programs.

The inclusion of individuals from various professional backgrounds and regions of Nigeria highlights an effort to ensure diverse representation in leadership positions. This diversity can help address regional disparities and ensure that programs are responsive to the needs of different communities.
