The Muslim residents of the Adamawa State capital, Yola, had trooped out on Saturday, August 10 to an Eid praying ground in the city, where they offered special prayers for rain
Reports gathered had revealed that the worshippers had assembled at the expansive grounds of the NEPA Central Mosque in Jimeta appealing for Allah’s intervention with rain.
At the time of filing this report, it has been at least 25 days since the last rainfall in Yola and crops have begun to wither in August, when heavy rain and coolness of weather should be the norm.
The Chief Imam of Demsawo, Mallam Salihu Suleiman, who was of the mind that this was their punishment for the people’s sins had urged the people to repent of their sins so that God would show mercy and pour down the rains.
He also cautioned Muslims to give alms (Zakah) to the needy.
Meanwhile, the Acting District Head of Jimeta, Mohammadu Chubado, had appreciated the residents for trooping out to attend the prayer.
He further asked for continuity of the prayers on daily basis until it finally rains.
