Renowned Lyricist Will Jennings Passes Away at 80

Award-winning American lyricist Will Jennings, the man behind famous songs such as Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’ has passed away at the age of 80. According to the news sources, he died at his residence in Texas but the cause of his demise is still unknown. Born in Kilgore, Texas, Jennings rode a successful career that covered fifty years, starting with his Hollywood career in 1976.

The artist’s first big breakthrough came with songs like Barry Manilow’s “Looks Like We Made It”, which was co-written with Richard Kerr along with another hit, “Somewhere in the Night. ” Jennings has worked with legendary musicians as B.B. King, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey. Jennings has worked on many film soundtracks and he was first nominated for an Academy Award in 1983 for “Up Where We Belong” which was featured in the movie An officer and Gentleman.

His biggest success was in 1997 when he wrote lyrics for the song ‘My Heart Will Go On’, featured in the movie Titanic. The song got him many awards such as an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and multiple Grammy awards. He continued making his mark in music by winning three Grammys and being inducted in to the country’s Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.

His timeless contributions to music, both in film and popular culture, will continue to inspire future generations.
