Dr. Yemisi Solanke Koya, Head of Chambers/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alabukun Law Chambers, has condemned foreign airlines for demanding foreign currency payments for flying tickets purchased in Nigeria.
Koya called the demand by international airlines offensive to the holy ideas of Nigerian sovereignty in a complaint letter to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.
She said that in other countries, it would be unthinkable for any Nigerian business to demand payment in naira and kobo for transactions in their sector.
Nigeria, according to Koya, must not allow the foreboding and odious remnants of a past albatross to return unrestrained in a refurbished fashion to weaken its independence and usurp its currency.
She went on to say that if such incursions, whether subtle or overt, continue unabated, the gradual erosion of Nigeria’s sovereignty could lead to extremely tumultuous paths for Nigeria and its people.
Koya further said that it is incumbent on the government to scathingly condemn the ignominy and assure the nation’s sovereignty.
