On Monday, a Russian Navy vessel anchored in Cape Town harbor ahead of joint naval exercises with South Africa and China.
The Russian consulate in Cape Town posted a photo of the battleship Admiral Gorshkov docked.
The drills will take place in Durban and Richards Bay from the 17th to the 27th of February.
Some have argued that the drill is inappropriate because it coincides with the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
However, the defense ministry has justified the scheduled drills, claiming that South Africa has previously held such exercises with France, the United States, and members of the Western Nato military alliance.
