A 400-level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University–ATBU Bauchi has been apprehended for reportedly possessing illegal firearms.
Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state had in a statement it recently released said that the suspect was arrested on Saturday after a tip-off by a vigilante group revealed that the student illegally acquired one locally-made gun, one locally-made pistol, and 9mm live ammunition.
The suspect has meanwhile already admitted to the offence and claimed that the weapons belonged to another person who was previously arrested for possessing locally made pistol in 2021.
Wakil had also revealed that a 28-year-old business café operator had been apprehended in a Bauchi suburb for reportedly scamming some ATBU students of N663,000. school registration fees.
Additionally, a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect fraudulently collected the money and thereafter gave his victims fake registration slips.
A police spokesman has said that the suspect had already admitted to issuing fake registration slips to several ATBU students.
He assured that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations.
