Nollywood actress and self-love advocate Monalisa Stephen has passed away due to health issues related to low blood sugar and internal bleeding. The tragic event took place in Lagos on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
A close family member confirmed her death, which was later announced publicly by Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of Best of Nollywood (BON), through his verified Instagram account on Wednesday.
“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” Oloketuyi shared.
Monalisa was widely recognized for her outspoken advocacy on body positivity, mental health, and self-acceptance. As a model, content creator, and media personality, she used her platforms to speak openly about her personal challenges, including struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts.
In March 2023, she made headlines after revealing in an interview that her ex-boyfriend performed oral sex on her during menstruation—a revelation that sparked mixed reactions and controversy across social media.
Despite the backlash, Monalisa remained committed to encouraging plus-size women to embrace themselves fully, often reminding critics that she was “living her truth.”
Following her passing, many fans noted her recent silence on social media, speculating it might have signaled her worsening health.
Her family has yet to release an official statement, but tributes and condolences have started pouring in on social media from fans and well-wishers.
