Rising Yoruba actress, Omotola Odunsi, has passed away, leaving the Nollywood community in mourning.
Her death was confirmed by close colleague Akinola ‘Segbowe’ Akano, who shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional Instagram tribute.
Segbowe posted screenshots of their last chat, where Odunsi assured him she was recovering from an illness and feeling better.
“Motola! Strange, but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” he wrote.
Another close associate, actress Ashabi Simple—who shares a child with singer Portable—also reacted to the tragic news. She said she recently worked with Odunsi on a movie set and expressed pain that many of their shared plans would now remain unfulfilled.
“I’m shocked. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for… We promised to feature each other in our next project. You laboured and didn’t wait to reap it,” she said.
“Most of your wishes we talked about didn’t even come true. GOD, we can’t question you, death is deep.”
Odunsi began her career in stage plays while studying at Olabisi Onabanjo University and later trained under Nollywood star Odunlade Adekola. She went on to feature in several notable films including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo.
Her passing has come as a shock to many in the industry who saw her as a rising star with a bright future.
