The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have both expressed hope for their independent victories as the Supreme Court will today, May 9 determine the authentic winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.
Recall that the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, had been declared governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission, but the APC candidate at the poll, Adegboyega Oyetola, had rejected the result and approached the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge it.
Thereafter during the January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-chaired tribunal had annulled Adeleke’s victory and subsequently declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.
But a minority judgment by Justice B. Ogbuli had affirmed Adeleke as the winner of the poll.
But a dissatisfied Adeleke and his party, the PDP had headed for the Court of Appeal, which had on March 24 nullified the tribunal judgment and returned Adeleke as the winner.
Meanwhile, Oyetola had headed for the Supreme Court, which held the matter on Monday, May 8 and the court had fixed judgment for today (Tuesday).
