The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that no life was lost in Sunday’s runway incident involving Air Peace’s flight P47190, which overshot the runway upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, FAAN said the aircraft, with registration number 5N-BQQ, took off from Lagos and landed at Port Harcourt at about 7:45 a.m. before veering off runway 03.
Overshooting the runway, but all passengers safe
According to FAAN, the Air Peace aircraft encountered trouble shortly after landing, overshooting the designated runway. However, emergency protocols were swiftly activated, and all 127 passengers on board were safely evacuated without injury.
Orah stated, “We are relieved to report that there were no casualties. Evacuation of the 127 passengers has been completed safely with no casualties.”
Passengers evacuated, departures likely delayed
Though there were no injuries, FAAN warned that passengers travelling to Port Harcourt should brace for flight delays. “In the interim, please plan for flight delays for any departing flights to Port Harcourt,” Orah added.
The statement did not disclose what led to the runway overshoot, but FAAN assured the public that investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates when available.
FAAN promises safety after Air Peace incident
Reaffirming its commitment to passenger safety, FAAN said that all necessary emergency response protocols were followed and that the aviation authority would continue working to ensure that such events are managed professionally.
Orah concluded, “FAAN remains committed to the safety and security of all passengers and airport users.”

Though the Air Peace Port Harcourt runway incident could have ended differently, swift response by authorities ensured there were no casualties. The incident, while serious, serves as a reminder of the importance of continued investment in emergency systems and airport infrastructure. As investigations continue, passengers are advised to stay updated and factor in delays when planning travel to or from Port Harcourt.
