Al Ahli was the last team standing after a 5–3 penalty shootout win over Al Nassr following a 2–2 draw. As a consequence, Cristiano Ronaldo was not able to get hold of any trophy aside from his historic 100th goal for the Riyadh club.
After Ali Majrashi was penalized for handball, Ronaldo, 40, converted a spot-kick in the 40th minute. Besides, it was the 100th goal for “CR7” in the Saudi league, as he further made his mark in the Middle Eastern football.
Just before the break, the Kings of Asia got their equalizer through Kessié. The Ivorian midfielder received a perfect ball from new signing Enzo Millot and drilled it low over Bento’s goal line.
The events of the second half saw both teams looking for the winning goal. Ronaldo had his shot nicely saved by Mendy while Firas Al-Buraikan hit the post with a powerful shot. Although Marcelo Brozović was able to put Al Nassr back in front with a goal in the 82nd minute after a bad clearance, Al Ahli were able to level it late on when Roger Ibañez scored a header off a Riyad Mahrez corner in the 89th minute.
In the penalty shootout that decided the result, Al Ahli were perfect with the spot-kicks as they scored all five of them. Even though Ronaldo scored his attempt as well, Al Nassr missed a penalty which allowed Al Ahli to win their second Saudi Super Cup title.
