Algerian press freedom has been further constrained as a result of a law passed by the country’s parliament.
The bill tightens media ownership rules and gives judges the authority to order journalists to reveal their sources.
Domestic media outlets would be prohibited from accepting foreign funding, and dual nationals will be barred from holding press or broadcasting enterprises.
According to the most recent Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index, Algeria ranks 134th out of 180 countries.
