Amnesty International, the global human rights organization has urged the Nigerian federal government to immediately and unconditionally, release 23-year-old Aminu Adamu Muhammed who had been secretly detained over a tweet against Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari.
Muhammed, a final-year student in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, had on June 2022, posted on Twitter that Mrs. Buhari had suddenly added weight after taking part in feasting on the nation’s meager resources as the masses endured hardship under her husband’s regime. This tweet had been posted in Muhammed’s Hausa language.
Amnesty International had in a statement strongly criticized the actions of Aisha Buhari in arresting Aminu Muhammed.
According to the statement published on its official website, the global human rights organization had said:
“His family and friends alleged that he is being held and subjected to harsh beating, torture and other forms of maltreatment.”
“Amnesty International, therefore, calls on the authorities to release him from unlawful detention and ensure that all those suspected of torture and other violations meted against him are brought to justice. #FreeAminuAdamuMuhammed.”
